Dive Sites: St. George Island (off shore)

                    Site Difficulty Levels: Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

Caves Ledge Reef Intermediate (Excellent natural reef with an impressive 8 - 10 foot profile and  some vertical faces rising off a 75 foot floor. As the name implies, the ledge has undercuts and caves; a few large enough to swim through. Nurse sharks are frequently seen resting inside. Sea turtles are regular visitors to the site Since this site is so far from shore visibility is good, usually in the 40 foot range) Lat:N 29.34.624 Lon:W 84.11.933

(Subsurface drilling platform located in 106 feet of water raising off the bottom 40 feet. The platform was sank in 1980. This retired oil rig was sunk as part of the artificial reef program. It has done its job well, attracting lots of growth and fish. Great for photographers and spear fisherman alike) Lat:N 29.17.43 Lon:W 84.36.50
Empire Mica Intermediate - Advanced

(This large British tanker was torpedoed in 1942, just months after her maiden voyage. It is still largely intact, but overgrown with lots of coral, making it a magnet for large fish. Located around 26 miles off shore from Cape San Blas. The max depth is 105 feet.) Lat:N 29.18.72 Lon:W 85.21.22
Miss Jem

Intermediate

(Miss Jem is the remains of a 50 foot steel hull shrimp boat that sank in 1984. Site is located 15.4 miles of the shore of Dog Islands and St. George. Only small sections of the hull is left from this wreck. However it's loaded with Grouper and assorted bait fish. There are usually also several Barracuda in the area. The boat is in very close range to "O" Tower and also located in about 70 feet of water.) Lat: N 30° 02.13'  Lon: W 085° 42.89'
